As there has been some confusion in recent months, please be aware that the Board’s Appeals Process (21 NCAC 68 .0700) does not apply to the Case Presentation Method. Should an error occur during the administration of the examination (an applicant is not provided the Global Criteria at the start of the exam, for instance), the applicant should contact the Board office immediately. One can not contest the scores given by the CPM Evaluators or appeal the outcome/score of the exam. Please contact the Board office should you have any questions in regards to this.

Applications Without Payments
Recently the board has received a number of applications for certification, licensure and training approval without payment or with notations that payment will follow. This makes
it difficult for staff to maintain complete records on payments received by the board. Therefore, beginning on April 1, 2007, any application received without payment will be returned to the applicant or provider.

Additionally, it has long been the policy of the board not to accept applications or training approval requests by fax. Please note that, unless otherwise notified, applications received by fax will not be processed but will be returned to the applicant or provider.

Letters of Reference for the LCAS
Previously, the Board has required that signatures on the Letters of Reference for the Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist be from persons who hold both a master’s degree and a CSAC or LCAS. In further review of the statute, it appears as though the persons who were grandparented into the LCAS with less than a master’s degree may also sign the Letters of Reference and that only the CSAC’s must also hold a master’s degree. The Board hopes this is of help to persons completing their application packets.

Upcoming Training Calendars
Questions frequently arise about making submissions in time for the printing of the bimonthly newsletter. In an attempt to assist agencies in having trainings listed in our calendar, the Board would encourage all providers to submit upcoming training events no less than 60 days prior to the scheduled event. Additionally, some agencies submit to the Board annually or semi-annually their entire training calendar. The Board is happy to publish those events with approval numbers pending.

US DOT SAP Providers
Recently the United States Department of Transportation required that anyone who performs US DOT assessments must have completed a course of study on DOT guidelines and passed a national examination in addition to being credentialed with various groups (IC&RC member boards, NAADAC, EAPA). While many CSACs and CCASs have taken the exam offered through the IC&RC and its member boards, some have taken other national exams. If you would like your name to be noted, please furnish to the Board a copy of the certifi cate documenting your successful comple tion of the training and written exam of the other professional discipline.
